11:30 am - 1:00 pm
The November luncheon will be held on Wednesday 15 November at 1130 in the Trident Ballroom, NBK Bangor.
Our Guest speaker will be Commander Scott Smith Commanding Officer of Unmanned Undersea Vehicle Squadron 1.
The Navy stood up the Unmanned Undersea Vehicle Squadron ONE (UUVRON-1) on 26 September 2017. UUVRON-1 is a first-of-its-kind command that reports to Commander Submarine Development Squadron Five. Standing up UUVRON-1 shows our Navy’s commitment to the future of unmanned systems. Per the undersea enterprise plan, UUVRON-1 is to integrate and employ UUVs into the submarine force in order to sustain an advantage in the undersea domain in direct support of the naval warfare. The Squadron operates out of BARB HALL (USS BARB SS-220), dedicated in January 2107, and located on Naval Base Kitsap, Keyport, WA.
UUVs are becoming increasingly critical to the way the U.S. Navy maintains dominance in the undersea domain. BARB HALL provides the first location where technical capabilities and expertise from military sources, private industry, and academic research can work together on these evolutionary platforms. Having our own facility allows us to integrate, prepare, test, and reconfigure [UUVs] with developers and operators working hand in hand – both physically and virtually. We are supporting efforts to leverage commercial technologies, rapidly integrate payloads, and assist in the development of tactics, techniques, and procedures.
